Generally, when there's an asterisk in the title and that asterisk refers to a disclaimer at the end of the post, it means the post was a joke.
Hey, I never promised you good jokes.

Posted by: Rob at December 9, 2004 09:15 PMIt's always the posts I write that I think are obviously a joke, that people seem to take seriously. Well, I never claimed to be funny. I think I need monster emoticons!

Ith, you brought up something--I'm usually a snob about emoticons, my notion being that it's the responsibility of the writer to write clearly enough that there can be no taking things the wrong way . . . but people really do have no reading comprehension anymore. If I had a dime for every business email I've sent that has been replied to in a way that addresses absolutely nothing I wrote originally, I'd be sitting pretty.
Posted by: ilyka at December 9, 2004 09:57 PMYou may be joking, my dear, but I'm 100% sincere when I say that not all the votes that could possibly go to DBPJ's are being counted. I suspect you are involved in this.
Posted by: Jeff at December 10, 2004 05:57 AMHold on a sec, here. Are you saying that you send emails to business contacts with an expectation of a lucid and topical response?
Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!
See? You can too tell a joke!

And all those years I shrugged off criticisms that I was a slow learner [sob] . . . .
