Impossible Wish for 2006

A dumb game some friends and I played years ago: Name your impossible wish for the new year. This has to be something that hasn't a chance in hell of coming true. Here's mine:

That no parents anywhere on the planet name their daughter "Sierra."

"But what about Ciara?" comes the anguished wail from hundreds of thousands of mostly stupid people. Well, I'll tell you: You can use "Ciara," if you're Irish. But then you have to pronounce it as in Irish: KEE-ar-a.

The other thing you should know about "Ciara:" It's already the name of a dimestore perfume. Are you trying to ensure your daughter grows up to be a streetwalker? Honestly, just name her "Jean Nate" and be done with it.

"But 'Sierra'--"

--is the name of a North American mountain range. Please leave it that way, you pretentious ass. Though, now I think of it, "Sierra" also sounds like it could be a discount brand of cigarettes. In fact, for all I know, it is.

"New Sierra Lights: High on taste--low on price! Now available in menthol and new 120s 'luxury lights.'"

So, no. Mamas, don't let your babies be christened "Sierra."

I dunno, think of the great name combos they could have: Sierra Nevada Jones, Sierra Madre Jones, Sierra Leone Jones. Or they could go the Japanese route: Fuji Yama Jones. It's not just a mountain range, it's a first and middle name!

Well, this mama is going to make sure that ain't happenin'.

Besides. He's a boy. ;o)

Hahaha!

And all her life she'll be asked if she's descended from the film people.

I just know someone is eventually going to do this, and my heart bleeds for that child already.

Damn it, I just had to remove "ifilm.com" from the mu.nu blacklist, because some dingbat had added it. That's in addition to the nitwit last week who blacklisted "theonion.com" and "theonering.net," plus whoever banned the letter "d."

This has got to stop. CERTAIN PEOPLE SERIOUSLY NEED TO WATCH WHAT THEY PUT IN THE BLACKLIST, like Little Miss Attila and whoever the hell "Mark" is. BUT DON'T MIND ME. I'M NOT PARTICULARLY ANNOYED BY THIS OR ANYTHING.

Honestly, these people.

Ilyka didn't say anything about naming your son, Sierra, Margi. He could have a truck with his name on it. Just sayin.

If I framed my comments, that would take pride of place in the gallery. Nice one.

Because I work at a DA office I come across hundreds upon hundreds of names and I'm always amused wondering what some parents were drinking (or smoking) when deciding what to name their child. These following 4 names (first, middle) are of 4 sisters in their early/mid 20's (all worked a shoplifting scheme together)

Conciousness Omega
Unity Oneness
Reality Maru
Spirit Salome

:-)

Now I did give my youngest the Irish name, Siobhan (sha-VAWN), her dad being 2nd generation Irish and all. Funny how often her older sister, Heather, gets asked when she names her sisters, if Siobhan is African American.

ahem
