Nag me tomorrow if I haven't barfed up some thoughts on this, which is excellent, and this, which is also excellent, but which pains me nonetheless because, frankly, I have a difficult time drumming up any sympathy for the blogger being discussed in that post.

Still, it's the principle of the thing, and I do support the principle.

I would just like to point out to any left-leaning readers that the blogger under discussion in that second link was the right's thin-skinned freak machine long before he was yours, lefties--and we managed to have just as much fun with him without calling him a paste-eater. It's not difficult; you don't exactly have to reach down deep into your bag of insults to launch some people into angry, angry orbits.

More food for thought:

What did we tell Bingley?

Your email won't work for me, but I'm glad you posted this.

More food for thought:

Sheesh, is some web admin dude at the NYT spending ALL his time deleting bugmenot registrations? None of them last beyond a day anymore. Bleah. I'll check out the article later, though. Assigning me MORE work--isn't that just like an academic!

One day, I think we're going to have to sacrifice venting in the name of civility. I admit that the more I read Goldstein, the more I'm chilled by what he does with our shared anti-essentialist beliefs. Ugh. Anyhow, I'll be interested to hear your response to my post, which is, unlike much of what I've read lately, an earnest attempt to generate invectiveless discussion.

Ilyka: pick up the gist here:

I think her title says it all:

"Next thing you know, bottle feeders will be thrown in jail"

And calling me an Academic: them's fighting words. I may hold a Ph.D., but I hold it in something useful enough to go get a real job with. ;-)
